Mudslinging is not a particularly new sport in politics, neither in Nepal nor elsewhere. However, of late it would appear that the tendency among politicians and their ardent fans to engage in such a sport has unfortunately increased.
One has only to read the public accusations about a “foreign hand” being active in certain political circles and the counter-accusations about a specific faction of a political party being in the pay of a foreign government to realize to what depths the practitioners of politics have gone in that respect.
A similar class of libel is that attributing the “people’s war” phenomenon to certain external elements by prominent politicians – without him providing either the name of those forces, not to mention any proof of the same.
