Kathmandu, January 17: Mahesh Bertaula, the chief whip of the ruling UML, has claimed that the chief whips of the four main parties in the parliament have decided to work together to make the parliament more effective.

He said the decision was taken at a meeting of the leaders of the four parties held at the UML parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar on Friday. He said there was a discussion on the role of parliamentary parties in taking the business or bills given by the government to the parliament to the lawmaking level in a fast-paced manner.

Bartola also said that the chief whips of the four parties in particular had reached an agreement that the parliament was capable of enacting laws. "How can we take forward the problem of the government giving bills to the parliament for a long time and keeping them pending for years when the parliament is not complete," he said,

"What kind of role will we MPs or parliamentary parties play in the coming days to take the business or bills given by the government to the parliament to the lawmaking level in a speedy manner? How do we know the time frame? We discussed these issues. In general, the conclusion of our meeting today is that we have concluded that the single parties will work together to achieve the effectiveness of Parliament and to establish that Parliament is capable of drafting bills", he said.

Chief Whip of Nepali Congress Shyam Ghimire, Chief Whip of Maoist Center Hitraj Pandey and Chief Whip of National Independent Party Santosh Pariyar participated in the discussion.
