KATHMANDU, Oct 21: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has proposed that political parties sit together with the Gen Z movement for talks. She proposed a meeting with party leaders at her Baluwatar residence on Tuesday.
Responding to parties’ concerns about the upcoming elections, Karki said, “The President has already opened the door for dialogue. Now, let the Gen Z representatives and political parties sit together.”
She assured that the government is fully prepared to hold elections on schedule in a free and secure environment. “The government is committed to conducting the polls,” she said, adding that ministers and security agencies are working around the clock to make that happen.
When asked why talks with Gen Z were delayed, the prime minister explained that time was spent on treating the injured, managing the bodies of those killed during the movement, and arranging relief for their families.
“We had to focus on medical care for the injured, funeral arrangements for the martyrs, and relief for their families. Early on, Gen Z youths themselves were not keen on engaging in dialogue with political parties,” she said.
Karki also made it clear that the government is ready to address parties’ concerns and ensure a successful election. “Let’s normalize the situation and move toward elections. Everyone must play their part to make the polls successful,” she said. “The government is ready to address the issues and concerns raised here.”
