Kathmandu, October 22: Police have arrested an Indian national from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu for allegedly smuggling a yellow metal that appears to be gold.

According to Dan Bahadur Karki, Additional Inspector General (AIG) and Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Rani Pokhari, the suspect has been identified as approximately 45-year-old Narpat Singh Solanki, holder of Indian passport number B6644934.

AIG Karki informed that Solanki arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday afternoon from Bangkok, Thailand, via Thai Lion Air flight SL–220. During a security check at the airport’s customs arrival area, police on duty found his behavior suspicious as he attempted to exit through the tunnel gate and subsequently detained him.

A video X-ray examination conducted at KMC Hospital revealed that Solanki had concealed a lump of yellow metal, wrapped in plastic, inside his rectum, weighing approximately 90 grams.

Police have since recovered the suspected gold and handed it over to the account section of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office. The suspect has been sent to the Kathmandu District Police Office for further investigation.

AIG Karki said that the recovered item will be handed over to the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office, Sinamangal, once the office opens for official procedures.
