Kathmandu, July 29: The Passport Department and German company Veridos have signed an agreement on passport printing. The agreement was signed on Monday between the Passport Department and representatives of Veridos.

The agreement was signed by Director General Tirtharaj Aryal on behalf of the Passport Department and Fabiola Bellersheim, Vice President, Asia Pacific Region, on behalf of Veridos. The signing took place at a special ceremony held at the Passport Department.

Veridos has been tasked with printing 6.4 million passports under the agreement over the next five years.

The Passport Department had decided to award the responsibility of printing passports to Veridos on July 20. Veridos had bid Rs 6.11 billion, 38.27 million for printing passports.

Some media reporters have linked Jaibahasur Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, with Veridos.
