Kathmandu, Aug 21: Nepal has once again made it clear that Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani are integral parts of its territory, urging India not to carry out any activities such as road construction, expansion or cross-border trade in the area.
Responding to media queries about the reported agreement between India and China to use the Lipulekh pass for border trade, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the land east of the Mahakali River, including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani, belongs to Nepal as per the official map incorporated in the Constitution.
In a three-point statement, the ministry said it has repeatedly requested India to refrain from any activities in the region, including road projects and trade, and has also communicated Nepal’s position to China.
The statement added that Nepal remains committed to resolving boundary issues with India through diplomatic dialogue, guided by historical treaties, facts, maps and evidence, while respecting the spirit of close and friendly ties between the two countries.
The clarification comes after Indian and Chinese media reported that Beijing and New Delhi had agreed to use Lipulekh for border trade during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India. Wang was in New Delhi at the invitation of Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who also serves as India’s special representative on boundary talks with China.
