
Kathmandu, August 31: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, has objected to the agreement between China and India on opening Nepal’s land Lipulekh trade route.
Prime Minister Oli made a clear statement on the issue of Lipulekh after holding talks on various areas of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries during a cordial bilateral meeting with President Xi on Saturday.
Foreign Ministry Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai informed us that Prime Minister Oli has clearly expressed his objection to President Xi over the agreement between China and India to make Nepali land Lipulekh a trade route.
Quoting Foreign Secretary Rai, the note sent by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said, “As per the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, it is clear that all the territories upto the Mahakali River belong to the sovereign country of Nepal.” We are confident that China will cooperate with Nepal in this regard. “
In response, President Xi has remarked that China respects Nepal’s stance and wishes to resolve the border disputes through bilateral talks between Nepal and India.
