Kathmandu, Jan 23: The Election Commission has sought a written explanation from Jagadish Kharel, the Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate from Dolakha, asking him to respond within three days.
Election Commission legal officer Mohanraj Joshi said Kharel is under scrutiny for allegedly organising a procession that exceeded the permitted size during the nomination filing on January 20. The commission is examining whether party flags were displayed and if the number of participants went beyond the limit set by the election code of conduct.
The commission noted that the incident could amount to a violation of Clause 13(1) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082 BS, and has asked the candidate to clarify his position.
Kharel has been told to submit his explanation within the given deadline, either by appearing in person or through an authorised representative.
