In mid-May-mid-June, government takes debts worth Rs 43 billion
Kathmandu, June 21: The government has taken about 43 billion rupees as public debt by mid-May-mid-June alone. The government has raised 34 billion rupees as internal debt and about 9 billion rupees as external debt in this period. Along with this, the government has taken a total of 3 trillion 7 billion 67 billion rupees public debt in the 11 months of the current financial year.
According to the Public Debt Management Office, most of the total loans received in the current year are internal loans. According to the office, till May, the government has taken two trillion 25 billion rupees of internal debt and 82 billion 67 billion rupees of external debt.
In the current year, the government had set a target of taking a total of 4 trillion 52 billion 750 million rupees worth of public debt. The government has taken about 68 percent of the total target by mid-June. The office said that 2 trillion 27 billion 19 billion rupees of principal and interest have been paid for internal debt.
One trillion 61 billion 62 million rupees of principal and 65 billion 57 million rupees of interest have been paid. Similarly, the government has paid 43.99 billion rupees in principal and interest for taking external loans
As the revenue, a source of expenditure started to be insufficient, the borrowing of the government has been increasing in recent years. So far, the government's public debt liability has exceeded 24 billion rupees.
