
Kathmandu, June 20: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the appointment of ambassadors will be made more systematic, respected, transparent and based on performance. Answering the questions asked by the parliamentarians in the meeting of the House of Representatives, the PM made it clear that the ambassadors will be appointed in the best interest of the nation as reflected in Nepal's constitution and foreign policy.
PM Dahal claimed that he only recalled those who became ambassadors through political appointments. He clarified that in the past along with the change of government, the ambassadors were recalled immediately, but this time they were recalled only after three months.
The government is committed to mobilize diplomatic missions and mission heads abroad in the best interests of the nation. According to the guidelines on appointment of ambassadors, 2075, if the government deems it necessary, there is a provision that the ambassador can be recalled before the completion of the term of office,'' he said. Only the political appointees have been called back.'
The government has recalled the ambassadors of 11 countries. Ambassadors of India, America, the UK, South Korea, Portugal, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Denmark, Qatar and Spain have been recalled. The Prime Minister clarified that the government is adopting a policy of evaluating ambassadors on an objective basis and managing them accordingly in order to strengthen the country's interests and diplomacy.
