The announcement by the UML last Saturday in the House of Representatives of the withdrawal of its motion of impeachment against Surendra Prasad Singh, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is an encouraging political development.  That announcement, which followed a meeting of the UML’s parliamentary party the same day, come more than a month after the motion had been registered and about two months after an earlier motion against the former Chief Justice and the present incumbent was summarily rejected by House Speaker Ram Chandra Poudel in the exercise of what he termed as his special prerogatives.
