Kathmandu, April 28: The Kathmandu District Court has permitted the Kathmandu police to keep under Police custody twenty-four persons, including RRP’s senior vice chairman Rabindra Mishra and medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who were arrested in connection with the violence in Kathmandu's Tinakune on March 28.
Spokesperson of the District Police Complex, Kathmandu, Police Superintendent Apilraj Bohara informed that seven days have been extended for investigation as they were produced in Kathmandu District Court on Sunday. The district attorney's office in Kathmandu had asked for a 20-day deadline.
The bench of Justice Ishwari Prasad Bhandari of Kathmandu District Court has allowed the seven-day custody. Earlier, the deadline was extended by only three days on April 25. Police are investigating the incident that took place on March 28. Out of the 85 people arrested in the case, 21 have been released on bail while 64 are being investigated.
The government seems biased against the pro-monarchy political leaders and intends to develop fake cases against those leaders under arrest.
Evidence shows that those pro-monarchy leaders were not involved in violence, nevertheless, it is assumed that the parties in the coalition government had infiltrated their workers to turn the peaceful rally into violent.
Surprisingly, the government has denied constituting an independent judiciary probe committee.
The People’s Movement Committee for Restoration of Monarchy coordinated by Navaraj Subedi has drawn attention of the international human rights organizations to the biased attitude of the government.
