
Kathmandu, March 31: A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office detained Kathmandu’s former Chief District Officer (CDO) Chhabi Rijal from his residence in Subidhanagar on Tuesday morning, according to SSP Santosh Khadka.
Rijal was serving as Kathmandu’s CDO during the Gen Z protests held on September 8 and 9. His arrest follows a recommendation by the probe commission formed to investigate the protests.
The commission had recommended investigation and prosecution under Section 182 of the Muluki Criminal Code 2074, which deals with causing death through negligence.
Under this provision, the offense carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 30,000.
Earlier, former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak had also been arrested.
