Kathmandu, March 31: Twelve Nepalis who had been forced into illegal work in Cambodia have been rescued and brought back to Nepal. Lured under various pretences, they were working illegally in Cambodia when the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, intervened to repatriate them.

The embassy reported that those rescued had been involved in illegal online scamming centers, casinos, and other unauthorised work, often staying in Cambodia without valid visas. With the support of the Cambodian government and coordination with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Cambodia, they were sent back to Nepal on Monday.

The embassy noted that many Nepalis stranded in Cambodia have been rescued and returned home before, and efforts continue to bring back those still in difficult situations. Reports indicate that Nepali citizens in Cambodia are often forced into online scams, other illegal activities, and sometimes overstay their visas.
