Nepalgunj, Feb 1: Cross-border movement for third-country nationals has started through the Jamunaha border point. The Immigration Office in Jamunaha, Banke, said that travel has become easier for tourists after it fully resumed arrival and departure services for third-country citizens a week ago.

Durga Wali, chief of the Jamunaha Immigration Office, said that two-thirds of the country’s tourists have already travelled via India since the service resumed. She said arrivals and departures through Jamunaha have restarted after about six years.

“No tourist using the Jamunaha border will face inconvenience. We have resumed all services,” she said. She added that travellers can move freely from Nepal to India and from India to Nepal through this point, and Nepal can gain in the tourism sector.

She said hotels in the area will become active, and business transactions can also grow. Wali expressed confidence that tourists entering through Jamunaha can reach tourist sites in Banke and Bardiya, which can raise revenue.

Indian journalist SK Madheshiya said movement through the border will benefit both countries and allow third-country tourists travelling via India to directly visit Nepali tourist areas.

Dilliraj Regmi, chair of the Nepal Association of Tours and Travel Agents, Banke, said local businesses will be the happiest after the border reopened. He said third-country tourists can travel via India and fully enjoy destinations in Banke and Bardiya.

He said visitors can see tigers and other wildlife in Banke National Park in Banke and Bardiya National Park in Bardiya. Nepal had stopped third-country tourists from entering via Jamunaha since the COVID period.
