Kathmandu, Jan 31: Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, has concluded a quiet election tour across Sudurpaschim, choosing not to deliver any public speeches during his visit.
Balen launched his campaign for the upcoming House of Representatives election from Lamki in Kailali district. Over the past few days, he covered the Terai districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur along with seven hill districts of Sudurpaschim. Although he met party leaders, candidates, and supporters at various locations, he refrained from addressing public gatherings.
During his visits to district party offices and candidates’ election contact offices, Balen rang the ceremonial bell and interacted briefly with supporters. The party has projected him as a potential future prime ministerial figure. His Sudurpaschim campaign began four days earlier from Kailali constituency number 2.
The party has fielded young leader KP Khanal as its House of Representatives candidate from Kailali 2. Khanal is considered close to Balen within the party. While on the campaign trail, Balen held informal discussions with party candidates and local leaders. Instead of speeches, he shared photos and short updates from his journey on social media, often using the Doteli language.
After Lamki, Balen travelled through Dhangadhi to Punarbas in Kanchanpur constituency number 1. On the same day, he visited party offices in Shuklaphanta and Mahendranagar, maintaining the same low profile approach. Images of him tasting the well known “Bajeko Kheer” in Dadeldhura, posing with snow, and observing local sites were widely shared online.
According to party leader Harish Bhatt, Balen completed campaign visits in hill districts including Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang, Bajura, Achham, and Doti before heading toward Karnali on Friday. Bhatt said Balen has now reached Manma in Kalikot.
He added that Balen used the Sudurpaschim visit to understand local issues, voter sentiment, and the party’s organizational condition through short discussions with candidates. The decision to avoid speeches was taken to respect the election code of conduct.
Party leaders said the tour generated strong enthusiasm and that public interest in Balen remained high throughout his Sudurpaschim visit.
