Kathmandu, Jan 31: President Ramchandra Paudel is scheduled to pay an official visit to Japan from February 1 to February 4, 2026.
According to Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, the visit is taking place at the invitation of the Japanese government to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan. President Paudel will lead a Nepali delegation and depart for Japan late at night on February 1 via a Nepal Airlines flight. He will return to Nepal on February 4 on the same airline.
During the visit, President Paudel will hold a state courtesy call with Naruhito at the Imperial Palace on February 3. On the same day, he is also scheduled to meet Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Foreign Secretary Rai said.
On February 2, President Paudel will attend a special reception hosted by the Japanese government to celebrate 70 years of Nepal-Japan diplomatic ties. Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, will also pay a courtesy call on the President during the visit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said President Paudel will take part in a meeting with the Japanese business community and attend a reception organised in his honour by the Nepali Embassy in Japan.
President Paudel will be accompanied by First Lady Savita Paudel and senior government officials. Formal meetings, ceremonial courtesies, and symbolism heavy enough to fill a protocol handbook, diplomacy rarely travels light.
