Kathmandu, March 1: Nepali Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has claimed that there is no debate within the party rejecting Gagan Thapa as party president. Addressing an election rally in Nuwakot 1 on Saturday, Mahat said discussions inside the party were only about the timing of the general convention, not about refusing to accept Gagan as president.
“There was discussion and debate in Congress. It is a big party, with many generations,” Mahat said. “There are debates and disagreements here. But we also resolve them. Earlier, the debate was about holding the convention before or after the regular elections.”
He said some leaders supported holding it earlier, while others preferred later, and that it was a healthy discussion. “The special general convention has now elected Gagan ji as president and a new committee,” he said. Mahat added that both the Election Commission and the Supreme Court upheld that decision.
“Therefore, there is no debate within the party about not accepting this. I urge everyone not to have any confusion,” he said.
He added that the party would move forward united and settle internal matters through discussion.
“Opponents are trying to create confusion by saying KC and Mahat do not agree, or asking what Lama will do,” he said, urging voters not to be misled.
