Mumbai, Feb 10: Pakistan has withdrawn its earlier decision to boycott the match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan will now face India in the group stage match scheduled for February 15 in Colombo.
The Pakistan government said on the social media platform X that it allowed the team to play India after considering requests from friendly countries and recent understandings.
According to the government, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the outcome of high-level talks involving the International Cricket Council, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, and the PCB.
The government also reviewed correspondence in which member nations, including Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, expressed expectations that Pakistan’s leadership would help resolve the issue. This followed a formal request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Meanwhile, Pakistan responded positively to the appreciation expressed by Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam, and reaffirmed its commitment to stand with Bangladesh.
As part of the latest effort, Prime Minister Sharif held a telephone conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. During the call, the Sri Lankan president urged Pakistan to take a positive decision to resolve the ongoing deadlock.
