Kathmandu, Feb 10: The government has decided to extend the term of the probe commission formed to investigate the Gen Z movement incident by another 25 days. A Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday took the decision to extend the commission’s deadline for the third time.
The second extended term of the commission is set to expire on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Government spokesperson and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the Cabinet decided to grant another extension.
He said the decision follows the Cabinet resolution of September 21, 2025, under which the commission was formed to conduct a factual investigation into the physical and human losses that occurred during the protests on September 8 and 9, 2025, and to submit a report. The Cabinet has now added 25 more days to complete this task.
The commission was originally formed with a three-month mandate. After it failed to complete its work within that period, the Cabinet meeting on December 23, 2025, extended the term by one month.
When the commission again failed to finish its work, the Cabinet meeting on January 22, 2026, granted a further extension of 20 days. As the commission could not submit its report within that second extended period either, the government has now approved a third extension of 25 days.
