Kathmandu: The Election Commission has sought a second clarification from Balendra Shah, also known as Balen, a candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party from Jhapa constituency number 5.

According to the Commission, it asked for clarification again after receiving audiovisual material linked to Shah’s election campaign. The complaint claims the footage shows plainclothes police personnel asking voters to support Shah. The Commission said on Monday that a formal complaint has been registered over the matter.

The Commission has also raised concerns about the deployment of plainclothes police alongside Shah’s wife during his campaign activities. It has instructed Shah to submit a clear explanation within three days, asking him to clarify what exactly took place.

The Commission warned that if a candidate or anyone acting on their behalf is found involved in activities that go against the Election Code of Conduct, 2025, action will be taken under existing election laws.

Earlier, the Commission had also sought clarification from Shah over a comment posted from his account on a Facebook post related to CPN UML chair KP Sharma Oli.
