Sarlahi: Traffic accidents have claimed the lives of 29 people in Sarlahi over the past six months of the current fiscal year, while 190 others have been seriously injured.

According to Ashok Sah, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Sarlahi, a total of 641 accidents involving small and large four-wheelers and motorcycles were recorded during the period.

Most of those killed were motorcycle riders or passengers. Sah said accidents occur more frequently on internal roads across the district.

He added that traffic rule violations by drivers and pedestrians remain the main cause of accidents. To address this, the traffic police have conducted dozens of awareness programs involving schoolchildren, residents, and pedestrians.

During the same six-month period, traffic police collected Rs 4,828,502 in revenue through action against vehicles violating traffic rules.

Police took action against riders without a driver’s license, motorcyclists not wearing helmets, vehicles operating without a route permit, and trucks carrying loads beyond capacity, Sah said.

Regular checks were carried out at different times on the East-West Highway as well as internal roads, with action taken against vehicles found violating traffic rules.

Police have also been strictly enforcing the requirement of two drivers for long-distance passenger buses. Of the 7,027 long-distance buses inspected over the past six months, 22 were found violating the rule and were penalised.
