Rasuwa, Jan 27: The Rasuwa Customs Office collected Rs 1.16 billion in revenue in the first six months of the current fiscal year, signaling strong trade flow through the northern border. Around 200 cargo containers are now under inspection.
Chief Customs Officer Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai shared the figures while addressing a program held to mark the 74th Customs Day. The office observed the day with a special event on Monday.
Bhattarai said clearance work is ongoing at the dry port area after flash floods in the Lhende Khola on June 24 last year left large deposits of stones and sand. The cleanup, carried out through the Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, has so far created space to park about 250 trucks. Some sections still need clearing.
During the event, the office honored two business firms and four staff members for strong performance. On the business side, CG Motor Suppliers was recognized for importing electric vehicles and paying Rs 3.21 billion in revenue in the last fiscal year. Finjo Sonam Suppliers was honored for exporting goods worth Rs 740 million.
Among staff, Nayab Subba Ramesh Gyawali, electrician Raju Oli, light vehicle driver Shyam Kumar Silwal, and office aide Naresh Datt Joshi received awards.
The program, chaired by Chief District Officer Rajesh Panthi, brought together local representatives, civil society members, traders, and border trade officials. Speakers stressed the need for responsible operation of the Rasuwagadhi border post under existing rules to raise the standing of the northern gateway. They also called for joint effort to push the road improvement plan forward. Drivers urged that sharp bends be straightened in the first phase of China-backed road upgrades.
The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project also received praise for keeping the road functional through winter dryness and monsoon slides.
