Kathmandu, Jan 25: The Home Ministry has urged the public and political actors to respect the honour and dignity of the national flag and to use it strictly within the limits set by law. In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry warned that improper use of the flag is a punishable offence.

Citing the Election Code of Conduct 2082, the Ministry said election candidates may display up to 10 national flags during campaign activities, including rallies, mass meetings, corner gatherings and similar events.

The statement also stressed that the flag must not be used in a manner that insults or demeans it. It should not be displayed in places or situations that conflict with public decency or social norms. The Ministry said the Procedures for the Use of the National Flag and National Anthem 2069 remain in effect to ensure orderly, respectful and appropriate use of national symbols.

According to the Ministry, Chief District Officers are responsible for overseeing and ensuring that the national flag is used in compliance with the established procedures.
