Baitadi, Jan 24: Rain accompanied by snowfall has been affecting the high hill areas of Sudurpaschim Province since Friday evening.

Police Inspector Suraj Singh of the District Police Office, Baitadi, said snowfall was reported in high-altitude areas, including Khodpe, Shribhavar, Dholyagod, Musyachaur, Satbanjh, and Dehimadau. Similar conditions were recorded in the Byas and Api Himal areas of Darchula.

Snowfall was also reported in Dadeldhura district, including the district headquarters and surrounding areas such as Hagulte, Sahukhark, and Bhatkanda, according to police.

Despite the rain and snowfall, highways remain open, and traffic has not been disrupted, Inspector Singh said.

This is the first winter rain and snowfall of the year, bringing relief to local farmers. A prolonged dry spell over the past four months had left wheat and other winter crops wilting. Farmers said the rain and snow are expected to revive crops.

The snowfall has led to a sharp drop in temperature. Health workers have urged residents to take precautions to protect themselves from the cold.

Meanwhile, Humla has also received snowfall. The district, which had not seen rain since last August, recorded its first snowfall of the year following rainfall. Farmers, who had been worried due to the long absence of snow, expressed relief after snowfall began.

Rain is falling in the lower parts of Humla, while snowfall continues in upper areas, including Simkot and Namkha.

The snowfall has disrupted daily life. Roads through Namkha Rural Municipality, including the route to Hilsa, have been completely blocked due to snow.
