Kathmandu, Jan 24: Nepal and China held the third meeting of their Border Trade and Cooperation Mechanism in Lhasa, agreeing to strengthen trade, connectivity, and cross-border coordination. The meeting was co-chaired by Commerce Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire and Xizang Vice Chairman Zhao Peng.

The two sides agreed to review key frameworks, including the 1981 trade agreement, border pass simplification, tunnel construction, fertilizer import quotas, disaster time vehicle rerouting, and continuation of China’s zero-tariff facility after Nepal’s LDC graduation.

They also agreed to improve border transport, ease customs procedures, promote Nepali exports through green channels, and advance several ICD and road projects. Cooperation will expand in tourism, agriculture, transport services, medical recognition, and traditional medicine. The next meeting will be held in Kathmandu.
