
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The Election Commission said objections have been lodged against five candidates from four districts out of the 3,487 contenders who filed nomination papers on Tuesday for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
According to EC spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, one complaint was filed against a candidate from Sunsari constituency 2, one from Rautahat constituency 1, two from Bhaktapur constituency 2, and one from Kailali constituency 1.
Bhattarai said the commission will examine both the nomination papers and the complaints from 3 pm today and take decisions by 5 pm on January 22. The preliminary list of candidates will be made public between 5 pm and 7 pm the same day.
He said all five complaints were submitted at the offices of the returning officers between 10 am and 3 pm across the country. The complaint window was opened to question the eligibility of candidates who registered their nominations during the same period.
Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations on January 23 from 10 am to 1 pm. The final list of candidates will be published between 1 pm and 3 pm, followed by the allocation of election symbols from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The commission said the registered candidates include 3,089 men, 396 women, and one third-gender candidate, bringing the total to 3,487.
