Kathmandu, Jan 22: A writ petition filed against former prime ministers Madhav Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai in connection with the Baluwatar Lalita Niwas land case has been scheduled for hearing by a full bench of the Supreme Court.

The case will be heard on Thursday by a full bench comprising Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal, Nripadhwaj Niraula, and Meghraj Pokharel. The writ is based on decisions taken by the then Council of Ministers to transfer government land at Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar into private ownership.

In Magh 2076, senior advocate Balkrishna Neupane filed the writ at the Supreme Court, demanding that cases also be filed against former prime ministers Madhav Nepal and Baburam Bhattarai. He argued that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority had granted them immunity despite their role in making what he described as tainted decisions to hand over government land to private individuals.

In the petition, advocate Neupane also claimed that the CIAA’s interpretation that all decisions made by the Cabinet are policy decisions is incorrect.
