Washington, Oct 19: Thousands gathered across major American cities to protest President Donald Trump’s policies on rights, education, and security under a nationwide movement called “No Kings.”
According to Al Jazeera, organizers expected over 2,600 events nationwide. Protesters carried placards reading “Dissent is Patriotic” and “Resist Fascism,” turning streets into scenes of festivity and defiance.
This was the third major demonstration since Trump’s return to the White House. The rallies came amid an ongoing government shutdown that has not only halted federal programs and services but also raised concerns about threats to the institutional independence of Congress and the judiciary.
Protesters gathered in New York’s Times Square, Boston Common, Chicago’s Grant Park, and hundreds of smaller public spaces across the country. Similar demonstrations were also held abroad, including outside the U.S. Embassy in London where more than 200 people joined, as well as in Madrid and Barcelona.
Trump, currently staying at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, told Fox News on Friday, “They’re calling me a king, but I am not a king.”
