Janakpurdham, Oct 16: Jitendra Prasad Sonal, a leader of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) Nepal, has been appointed Chief Minister of Madhes Province.
Provincial Head Sumitra Subedi Bhandari appointed Sonal under Article 168(2) of Nepal’s Constitution.
Bhandari had set a deadline until 4 p.m. Wednesday for parties to submit claims for the new government. Sonal presented his claim earlier today with the backing of 57 provincial assembly members from six parties, excluding the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML.
He secured support from the LSP, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Janamat Party, CPN (Maoist Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist) to stake his claim for the post.
