Kathmandu, October 11: The Salt Trading Corporation’s Jumla Branch Office has stated that there is an adequate supply of salt in the district. According to Office Chief Nagendra Bahadur Thapa, around 6,000 quintals of salt are currently in stock at the local depot.

For the current fiscal year, the depot located in the district headquarters, Khalanga Bazaar, has been allocated 5,500 quintals of salt; the Narakot depot in Sinja Rural Municipality has 1,500 quintals; and the Guruchaur depot in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality has been allocated 1,300 quintals, according to the office.

Thapa said, “There is no shortage of salt in the district. The supply is sufficient.” About 546 quintals of salt were sold during the Dashain festival period. Salt is distributed based on the recommendations of the wards of all eight local levels, and distribution is being carried out according to their demand.

In previous years, the district’s salt quota used to be around 5,400 quintals, and it was sometimes difficult to supply enough to consumers. However, since the quota was increased this year, distribution to consumers has become much easier, Thapa added.

The transportation of the remaining quota for all three depots, including the district headquarters, is currently underway. The office further stated that most salt consumers are from Chandannath Municipality, Guthichaur, Patarasi, and Tatopani Rural Municipalities. With salt now being distributed directly through local ward offices, local residents have found it much more convenient—and they are very pleased with the new system.
