Kathmandu, Sept 28: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma said that if the interim government fails, democracy itself could be at risk.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the party office in Makwanpur damaged during vandalism and arson on September 8–9 during the Gen Z protests, Sharma said the interim government cannot be allowed to fail.
He said that since the government was formed in response to the protests, its failure would put democracy in danger, and Congress is ready to support it to ensure success.
While acknowledging that capable individuals have been included in the cabinet, he expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of Gen Z youth representation and suggested they should also be brought into the council of ministers.
He argued that the arson and vandalism targeting government and private property during the protests did not represent Gen Z sentiments and stressed the need to punish those involved.
Sharma said the recent events have sent a message to political parties to change and announced that the party’s central committee is preparing to meet to address diverse opinions and develop a common position.
