Kathmandu, Sept 25: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said elections must be held on March 25 to safeguard democracy. He stressed that his party should work hard to create the right environment for this.

Speaking at the ongoing Central Committee meeting at the National Academy Hall  in Kathmandu, Prachanda said, “The Maoists will focus on ensuring that the March 5 election is successfully held to protect democracy.”

After the September 8-9 Gen Z protests, then-Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned. With no possibility of forming a new government from the House of Representatives, an interim government was formed under former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. Acting on the interim government’s recommendation, President Ram Chandra Paudel dissolved the House and set the election date for March 5.

Prachanda said his party must play its part to ensure the elections are held on time.
