Kathmandu, Sept 21: Human Rights and Peace Society has called for legal action against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and others over the loss of lives and property during the recent Gen Z protests.

Issuing a statement on the 44th International Day of Peace, Society Chairperson Renuka Paudel said good governance is a prerequisite for peace and urged the government and political parties to take concrete steps to end corruption, misrule, and impunity.

The group demanded that those involved in arson, vandalism, and looting after the protests be identified and prosecuted. It also suggested cutting state benefits to former VIPs, forming a special ministry for reconstruction, and declaring the next decade as a “Decade of Reconstruction.”

The statement further called for depoliticizing police and administration, removing politically appointed officials in constitutional and judicial bodies, and ensuring free and fair elections under the interim government.
