Kathmandu, Sept 21: The Kathmandu District Police Office has mobilized  4,738 police personnel under the command of district police chief during this year’s major festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath.

According to police spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Apil Raj Bohara, four levels of security strategy have been set to ensure the festivals are celebrated safely and peacefully while preventing untoward incidents.

He said 364 police personnel will be deployed at 91 fixed picket duty points. Kathmandu will also have 14 citizen assistance desks, three of which are already operating at Balkhu, Kalanki, and New Bus Park with 72 personnel.

Special security arrangements will be in place at temples, ticket counters, livestock markets, shopping centers, and jewelry shops, with plainclothes police deployed as well.

Since theft, pickpocketing, robbery, and assault cases usually rise during Dashain and Tihar, a significant number of plainclothes officers, quick response teams, mobile teams, and motorcycle patrol teams will be mobilized.

The security plan even includes measures to protect homes of people leaving for long holidays. Police have requested residents to either leave their houses in the care of trusted individuals or inform the nearest police station before traveling.
