Kathmandu, Sept 19: The Prime Minister Shushila Karki’s office has denounced the charge that the office has removed the updated Nepali map.
Earlier, CPN-UML secretary and former minister Padma Aryal has questioned Prime Minister Sushila Karki for reportedly removing the flag bearing Nepal’s updated map from her office. Addressing the Prime Minister, Aryal wrote, “It is said that the updated map enshrined in Nepal’s constitution has been removed from your office.”
Aryal argued that the map, endorsed by parliament with national consensus and included in the constitution’s schedule, is a document of sovereignty engraved on the chest of Mother Nepal.
When asked about the matter, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers said that the map had not yet been installed in the prime minister’s new office. Secretary Govinda Karki clarified that the updated map had not been removed as Aryal claimed.
“This is just a rumor. The prime minister’s office has shifted to a new building and the map has not yet been put up. The situation should be understood,” Karki said.
During the Gen Z protest on September 8 and 9, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar was set on fire. Prime Minister Karki assumed office in a new building originally built for the Ministry of Home Affairs inside Singha Durbar on September 14.
Secretary Karki, who handles administrative affairs, said that the new office space is small and the documents and materials in the old office were destroyed by fire. As new documents and materials are being managed, the map has not yet been placed in the prime minister’s office.
“We have set up a new office space for the new prime minister. The updated map has not been installed yet,” Secretary Karki said, adding, “The old office was destroyed in the fire and the materials there became unusable. It has not been possible to manage everything yet.”
