
Kathmandu, September 16: Four Nepali nationals have been killed in a car accident near Kotkhai in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, India. Two are injured.
The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Dilli Bahadur Shahi, 36-year-old Ekendra Shahi, 26-year-old Laxmi Malla Shahi and 33-year-old Rajesh Bishta.
Navraj Shahi and Him Bahadur Shahi were injured in the accident. Three of the deceased were from the same family.
According to the preliminary investigation, the pickup jeep fell into a cliff when the driver lost control. Lakshmi was rushed to the hospital but died during treatment. Another passenger, Dilli Bahadur, who was seriously injured, was referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital but he also died during treatment.
Two of the injured have been discharged from Kotkhai Health Centre after treatment. According to the Indian newspaper The Hindustan Times, DSP Siddharth Sharma has said that after the incident, a case has been registered in Kasur under Section 106 of the Indian Penal for causing death due to negligence and further investigation is underway.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem and the family of the deceased has been informed. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu issued a statement expressing grief over the incident. He assured that the government will always be with the bereaved family and provide necessary assistance.
Similarly, Education Minister and MP from Kotkhai constituency Rohit Thakur has also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the accident. He also wished for the health of the patients.
