
Kathmandu, Sept 15: A faction of the Gen Z group led by Sudan Gurung has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Expressing dissatisfaction over ministerial appointments, the group staged a protest at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar last night, calling for Karki to step down.
On Sunday evening, news broke that Karki had appointed Kulman Ghising as Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister, and Rameshwor Khanal as Finance Minister.
Gurung’s group objected to Aryal’s appointment as Home Minister. Gurung warned that if their concerns were ignored, they would “throw everyone out.” He claimed that it was their movement that brought the current government to power and said no one could stop Gen Z.
He also expressed displeasure that ministers were appointed without consulting them.
After two days of Gen Z protests, then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned, and on Friday, Sushila Karki was appointed as head of the interim government.Meanwhile, Youths Gurung’s group staged a midnight protest in front of the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. They shouted slogans saying their movement had been hijacked.
“I was walking over dead bodies,” Gurung said, “and here they are busy deciding who should be made ministers.”
The youths claimed they were the real leaders of the movement and said, “Our movement has been hijacked.” Gurung publicly warned that if their demands were not met, they would force everyone out tomorrow.
