Kathmandu, Sept 15: Six divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been shifted to the building of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwar. They were relocated on Sunday (Bhadra 29) after Gen Z protesters set fire to and destroyed the previous offices housed in the old Ministry of General Administration building at Singha Durbar.

“From today (Sunday), the six divisions have been moved to the Passport Department building in Tripureshwar,” ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel Chhetri said. “Work is being done with the computers available there.”

The divisions moved include Economic Diplomacy, Policy Planning and Research, Labor, Migration and Diaspora, Public Diplomacy, and Southeast Asia. The remaining divisions will continue to operate from the ministry’s main building next to the Ministry of Finance.

During the protests, 22 ministry vehicles were damaged, six of them burned completely. Windows and body parts of 16 others were smashed. Nine vehicles reserved for VIP use were not harmed.

Gen Z protests had erupted nationwide on Bhadra 23 and 24. Nineteen protesters were killed on the first day. The following day, the demonstrations turned violent as protesters stormed Singha Durbar, setting fire to and vandalizing several ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
