Kathmandu, Sept 14: Leaders of eight political parties have demanded that the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) be reversed and a parliamentary session be called. They stressed that the demands of the protesting groups should be addressed through elected institutions.

Issuing a joint statement on Saturday (Bhadra 28), they objected to what they called the undemocratic and unconstitutional move of forming a government from the streets and dissolving the House by bypassing parliament.

“The steps taken against the democracy won through the long struggle and sacrifices of the Nepali people and against the federal democratic republican constitution promulgated by the Constituent Assembly cannot be accepted at any cost,” they stated.

They argued that the dissolution of the House contradicts Article 76(7) of Nepal’s Constitution, the precedent set by the Supreme Court, and constitutional traditions.

The statement was signed by leaders from the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, CPN-Unified Socialist, Janata Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party.
