Bhishma Raj Phulara, a promising novelist and writer in Nepalese literature, was born in Chudi village, situated in the scenic Doti district of Sudurpaschim Province in far-western Nepal. With over 15 years of writing experience, Phulara has made significant contributions to society through art, literature, education, and social service. Since his student days, he has utilized his literary talents to advocate for justice, equality, and change.

Growing up in a middle-class family, Phulara strongly opposes oppression and exploitation. He believes that knowledge should be acquired not only from teachers but also from family, drawing inspiration from his father’s struggles, life experiences, and various incidents. He has played a meaningful role in advancing both the creation and preservation of art and literature while maintaining a high sense of dignity and discipline as a creator.

Phulara is defined by ease in practice, refinement in writing, clarity in ideology, discipline in conduct, and innovation in creation, curiosity about skills and art, and tenderness in emotion. These qualities enhance his literary work and motivate his continuous progress. He stands as a beacon of truth, confronting challenges head-on and striving to transform selfishness into creativity. An active creator, Phulara prioritizes the interests of society over personal gain, refusing to compromise in his commitment to writing, art, and literature.

His published novels include “Nafapeko Manche” (2010), “Tuhuro Kundali” (2017), the English version of “Orphan Horoscope” (2019), and “Bashuda” (2022) and a research book “History of Nepali Language and Literature” (2018). In addition to these works, he has released numerous songs enjoyed by audiences and listeners.

Skilled in crafting contemporary songs that resonate with the current times and culture, Phulara is known for his timeless triumphs such as “Junasari Bilai Gayau ‘Aama’,” “Kasto Virus Aayo,” “Aansu Piaudai,” “Bhagyabhitra Jeevan,” “Yo Saharko Derama,” “Karkalako Pani,” as well as his film songs like “Aaha Bho Aaha Bho” and “Pura Bho Sapana Mero.” He has also contributed to the Deuda genre with the song “Saino Mitai Gayi” and festive tunes like “Holiko Rang” and TV film title song “Sapna.” Furthermore, he has released a Shiva bhajan titled “Jaunla Kailashaima.” Currently, his new trendy dance song “Putali Moya Lamna Ho” is going viral and has entered the million clubs in terms of views.

Bhishmaraj Phulara has shown a strong interest in education and social service from a young age. He completed his education up to S.L.C. at Saraswati Secondary School in his village and pursued higher education at Nepal Commerce Campus in Min Bhawan, Kathmandu. In addition to his studies, he has been actively involved in literature and has held various significant positions in numerous organizations. These include serving as the President of the ‘Phulara Literature Foundation Nepal’, the Secretary for the ‘International Network of Nepalese Filmmakers (INNF)’ and ‘Social Transformation for Civil Society’, as well as being the Editor of ‘Nagarik Board Dot Com’. He is also a central member of the ‘Nepal Cultural Association’ and a member of the ‘International Writer’s Association PEN Nepal’. His work in these roles is both important and commendable.

Phulara has made considerable contributions to modern literature, establishing himself in society through his willpower, determination, persistence, and passion for literature, all while facing struggles along the way. He views family, society, circumstances, surroundings, events, and life experiences as inspiration for his writing. Throughout his journey, he has encountered and overcome numerous hardships. Phulara has received numerous prestigious national literary and music honors, awards, and medals. Among these are the Excellence Literary Awards, including  the “9th National Capital Award 2081,” the “3rd Shree Aama National Award 2081,” the “National Special Citizens Award 2079,” the “National Boosters Literary Awards 2077 and 2074,” the “Star One Excellence Honor and Award 2075,” the “National Shikhar Honor Award 2075,” and the “Best Documentary Writer Award 2019.”

In addition, he has served as a jury member for several events, including “Mr. & Miss East Pole 2025, Season 1,” “National Special Citizen Award & Artists Honor 2024 (Jury Coordinator),” “National Opsana Music Award 2024,” the “2nd Birat Music Film Award 2023,” the “2nd National Citizen Creation Award 2023,” the  the “National Creative Citizen Award 2023,” the “3rd Spiny Blabber International Film Festival 2023,” and the “PIM Nepal Film Festival 2020.”

Bhishmaraj Phulara, who has made literature and writing his primary profession, observes that many current writers approach this field with a lack of seriousness. They often prioritize quantity over quality and creativity, resulting in a corresponding insensitivity in literary creation. He believes this trend has negatively impacted creative writers, complicating the sale and distribution of their work and making it difficult for them to reach their readers. Phulara emphasizes that the literary sector must address this issue and put an end to such distortions.

Having been conscious of literature since his student days, Phulara has created works despite facing numerous risks and difficult conditions, never letting uncertainties about the future deter him. He has won the admiration of many and gained recognition within local, national, and even international literary circles. His active participation in art and literature reflects his dedication to society.

Bhishmaraj Phulara dedicates most of his time to literature. He is a hardworking, sociable, and self-respecting individual who always approaches literary creation with enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to society.
