
Tianjin, Aug 31: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited China after seven years, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping today. The two leaders spoke for 50 minutes.
According to Indian media, during the discussion, Modi said, “Last year in Kazan, we had very useful talks that improved our relationship. After the withdrawal of troops from the border, an environment of peace and stability has been created. Special representatives have reached agreements on border issues. The Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage has resumed, and direct flights between the two countries are also restarting.”
Modi also mentioned that the cooperation between India and China benefits 280 million people and opens a path for the welfare of all humanity.
After the meeting, President Xi expressed his happiness in meeting Prime Minister Modi. The Chinese president emphasized the importance of India and China working together.
The two leaders expressed their commitment to advancing relations based on mutual trust and respect.
After a two-day visit to Japan, Modi arrived in China on Saturday evening. Since the Galwan clash in June 2020, India-China relations had deteriorated. One aim of this visit is to reduce the border dispute between the two countries.
Modi will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held today in Tianjin. This time, China is hosting the largest SCO summit in history.
More than 20 countries are participating. Alongside Modi and Putin, leaders from Central Asia, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia will also take part in the summit. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Russian President Putin on Monday.
