Kathmandu. Seven different political parties have called for a united movement against foreign interference and imperialism, urging the public to join their protest. Referring to Nepal’s history from the 1816 Sugauli Treaty up to the MCC agreement, they accused successive Nepali rulers of direct and indirect involvement in such deals.

On August 19, the parties also demanded the cancellation of the India-China agreement to conduct cross-border trade through the Lipulekh route, which was signed without Nepal’s knowledge.

The parties organizing the joint protest include the Nepal Communist Party, Socialist Communist Party Nepal, Shramik Janata Party Nepal, Greater Nepal Communist Party, Nepal Communist Party (Revolutionary), NCP (Rebel), and the New Democratic Front Nepal.

In a statement, they cited past controversial deals such as the 1816 Sugauli Treaty, the 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship, Koshi and Gandak agreements, Tanakpur and Mahakali treaties, BIPPA, and the MCC, saying Nepali rulers were complicit in all of them.

At a press conference on Friday, the parties said, “The agreement between India and China on August 19 to open a trade route via Kalapani and Lipulekh is a strategic intervention against Nepal’s sovereignty, self-determination, and territorial integrity. It must be scrapped immediately.”
