
Kathmandu, August 29: A Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will pay a five-day official visit to China from August 30 to September 3.
PM Oli, while briefing the House of Representatives about his upcoming visit to China today, made it clear that the main purpose of the visit is to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to be held in China's Tianjin city.
Founded in 2001, the SCO is one of the world's largest regional organizations. Its member states include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus. Nepal has been active as a dialogue partner of the organization since 2016.
PM Oli is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Vice President Han Zhang during the visit.
He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government of different countries on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. He is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin; Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzou; Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet; Prime Minister of Laos, Sounessai Siphandone, and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh.
The Nepali delegation is also scheduled to attend the 80th Victory Day celebrations of the World War against Fascism and the Chinese Resistance War against Japanese Invasion to be held in Beijing, China. Delegations from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the event.
Prime Minister Oli expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen Nepal-China friendly relations and strengthen Nepal's image and prestige in the international arena through Nepal's active participation in the SCO Summit.
The visiting delegation included Radhika Shakya, wife of the Prime Minister, former Deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Raghuji Pant, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey, former Minister and Economic and Development Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr. Yuvraj Khatiwada, former minister and MP Chhabilal Bishwakarma, senior government officials are including in the entourage team led by PM Oli.
