
Kathmandu, Aug 24: A delegation-level bilateral meeting was held between Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav and his Vietnamese counterpart Vo Thi Anh Xuan.
The meeting took place on Sunday morning (August 24) at Hotel Yak & Yeti in Kathmandu. According to a joint press briefing held after the talks, discussions covered trade, investment, hydropower, tourism, and cultural cooperation.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prakash Adhikari, said the talks also focused on Nepal–Vietnam relations and international cooperation. Both sides expressed commitment to strengthening friendship, goodwill, and bilateral ties.
According to Adhikari, discussions were held on high-level exchanges of visits, cultural and religious cooperation, promotion of tourism through air connectivity, expanding collaboration in trade, investment, and digital transformation. He noted that Vietnam’s rapid economic growth offers Nepal valuable lessons. The two countries also agreed to cooperate on tackling climate change and environmental challenges. At the invitation of Vice President Yadav, Xuan arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday (August 23). This visit marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Vietnam, and it is also the first high-level visit from Vietnam to Nepal.

Both sides highlighted that Nepal–Vietnam relations are based on friendship and goodwill. The 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties has provided an opportunity to take the relationship further. The two countries agreed to hold high-level exchanges of visits. Discussions emphasized cultural and religious commonalities, with Buddhism serving as a bridge between the two nations, creating strong prospects for promoting religious and cultural tourism.
Both sides also talked about enhancing air connectivity in the near future to boost tourism. Nepal can learn much from Vietnam’s record economic growth. Talks covered investment promotion, trade, and digital transformation. The two countries agreed to advance people-to-people ties and strengthen common positions in international diplomacy.
They also held detailed discussions on environmental challenges facing Nepal due to climate change and agreed to work together in these areas.
