Kathmandu, August 23: At a time when his cousin Sekhar Koirala is campaigning for contesting to the post of the Nepali Congress’ president in the upcoming party’s national convention, Shashank Koirala has expressed the view that he should become the party president from the upcoming general convention of the party to shape the party as of his late father BP Koirala.
It is not certain when the 15th national convention of the party is going to be held, NC leaders have already started campaigning for the party election.
However, BP’s son Shashank, who had remained silent, has shown interests in contesting to the post of the party president.
Shashank announced for the first time that he would be the party’s presidential candidate at a workers’ meeting organized by Nepali Congress Dhanush in Janakpur on Friday.
“I want to build a Nepali Congress like BP Koirala’s.” “That is why I have to become the president of the Nepali Congress,” he said, “I have no greed. I have come to serve Nepal and Nepalis by strengthening the Nepali Congress.”
Referring to his grandfather Krishna Prasad Koirala, who died in jail for Nepal and Nepalis despite having thousands of bighas of land, Shashank said that he would work for the welfare of the country and the people by keeping the party united.
