Dang, Aug 23:: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s attempt to return to party politics would be a threat to the republic.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Dang, Pokharel remarked that when someone who has already served as the supreme commander of the army re-enters party politics, it risks spreading distrust toward the republic.

“A former president is the guardian of the constitution, a person who has already been the supreme commander of the army,” Pokharel said, “if she returns to active politics, it will create doubt and disbelief in the republic itself. Parties should not make that mistake.”

He added that the Maoists erred by bringing the former vice president back into active politics. Calling the Maoists a party still learning democracy, Pokharel said the UML and the Congress should teach them democratic values.

Pokharel stressed that the Maoists must correct their decision to reintroduce the former vice president into politics.People’s News Monitoring Service
