Kathmandu, August 23: Today, known as Bhadra Krishna Aunsi, is observed with several festivals.
The Day is known as Kush Aunsi, and it is observed by bringing “Kush” (barley grass) at home. Kush is used in religious events.
The Sanatan religion considers Kush, Tulsi, Peepal and Shaligram to be the symbols of Lord Vishnu. There is a religious belief that the creator Brahma created the holy Kush along with the rational beings.

Honor to fathers:
The Day is also known as Father’s Day. On the occasion, children offer sweets, food and gifts to their fathers, showing respect. Those whose fathers are already deceased go to holy rivers and offer tribute to their deceased fathers. On this day, a special fair is held in the premises of Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple in the northeastern part of Kathmandu, especially known as Uttaragaya. The Day is thus also named as Gokarna Aunsi.
