Kathmandu, Aug 23: Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar has traveled abroad 17 times since assuming office, but only seven of those visits were officially approved by the Speaker as required by law. Records show she went on 10 trips without securing prior approval.

The issue surfaced in Thursday’s House of Representatives meeting when UML Secretary and lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai raised the matter during special time. “After being elected Deputy Speaker, she traveled abroad 17 times. Only seven trips were approved by the Speaker. She went abroad 10 times without approval. How should the public perceive this conduct from someone leading this respected House?” Bhattarai asked.

A list obtained by Ratopati shows Rana Magar made seven official and ten informal visits.

Her official engagements include participation in the RSIS-WTO Parliamentary Workshop on International Trade in Singapore from May 15 to 17, 2023, alongside lawmakers Ammar Bahadur Rayamajhi and Binod Chaudhary. She also led a delegation to the Eco Forum Global in Guiyang, China, from July 8 to 9, 2023, accompanied by lawmakers Maina Karki, Bhagwati Chaudhary, Chanda Karki (Bhandari), and Under Secretary Bimal Raj Joshi.

In 2024, she attended programs in St. Petersburg, Russia, from September 8 to 20, and in Linzhi, China, from July 2 to 7. She also traveled to Bangladesh on May 11, 2025.

Informally, Rana Magar visited the United States four times and India three times. She also made single trips to Spain, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong.
