Kathmandu, Aug 22: India has agreed to purchase 80 megawatts of electricity generated from two hydropower projects in Nepal. The Indian government has also approved for this additional import.

With this, Nepal’s total approved export capacity to India has reached 1,090.9 MW, up from the earlier 1,010.9 MW. Including the 40 MW approved for export to Bangladesh, Nepal’s total power export approval now stands at 1,130.9 MW.

On August 10, India had allowed the purchase of 200 MW of power from Nepal. On Thursday, it approved another 80 MW.

The medium-term approval has been granted under a bilateral agreement for the period from August 21, 2025, to October 31, 2026. The newly approved power will come from the 48.5 MW Mewa Khola project and the 31.04 MW Karuwa Seti Hydropower project.
